New York Peace Week
January 15 – 22, 2012 marked the 3rd annual NY Peace Week, in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s legacy of non-violence and which is organized by LIFE Camp, Inc., a youth-based nonprofit organization co-founded in 2002 by Erica Ford who is widely respected as one of the most diligent and hard working activists of her generation.The collective goal for NY Peace week is to create a culture of peace throughout NYC for 7 days by hosting an event, performing an activity or simply taking one personal action toward creating inner peace and setting a positive example for youth.
Peace Week galvanizes the efforts of entertainers, cultural icons, government leaders, educators, athletes and community based organizations to host an event or lend their voice to the message of peace.
As part of the week long activities on offer Conscious Global Leadership Institute, Russell Simmons and Erica Ford organised an evening of meditation guided by Anandagiri.
Also throughout the week One World Academy North America teacher’s Matthew and Ashwin attended many events presenting talks and offering support to youth around the city.
